The Chinese and Japanese have used green tea over the centuries as a stimulant and digestive aid. Tea is believed
to be very beneficial to our general health and is possibly a promoter of healing in many cases.
Studies suggest that tea drinkers have a smaller incidence of heart disease and cancer, perhaps even helping with
Alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis.
Green tea polyphenol is also being looked at as a skin cell rejuvenator when applied to surface abrasions such
as acne. Green tea with Honeysuckle, taken without sugar, helps to detoxify the system, perhaps aiding the clearing
of acne.
Today green tea is of great interest in the weight loss area. Green tea is treated differently than black tea after
picking, even though they come from the same bush. The leaves are steamed after partially drying which stops the
oxidation process, allowing the leaves to remain green. Drinking several cups during the day purports to burn sixty
to eighty calories. Anyone on a weight losing regimen is aware of the value of burning extra calories.
Catechins found in green tea apparently help us to lose fat and this is the goal of anyone on a weight loss
program. It seems to increase metabolism producing a higher core temperature thereby using more energy which burns
more calories resulting in further weight loss. Some studies suggest that green tea catechins also may help lower
LDL cholesterol.
